Building Organizational Shock Absorbers, Part II

This workshop is for you if:
  • You're part of a group navigating organisational transition, restructuring, or periods of high stress

  • You lead or work on teams, organisations, or communities across cultural or hierarchical difference

  • You're in the NGO or nonprofit sector and want stronger internal and external relationships to support mission-aligned work

  • You're a professional who knows that communication breakdowns are costing you — and want practical skills to address them

What You'll Learn

You'll leave with working knowledge of frameworks for trauma-informed self and community care, including:

  • The basics of trauma, "secondary stress," and burnout as it applies to the individual and group level

  • Strategies for self-care that account for the nature of difficult and vicariously traumatizing work

  • Why cultivating community is vital to creating supportive, sustainable organizational environments

  • Practices that organizations can implement that will support the people in it as they engage in meaningful work

Principles of Trauma-Informed Self & Community Care

Long-term engagement in meaningful work without burnout often requires realistic strategies for sustaining ourselves and each other. This session explores trauma-informed principles of care as both personal and collective practices. Going beyond the "tea and bubblebaths" approach to self-care, we explore how to mitigate the impact of vicarious traumatization or simply ongoing stress and uncertainty, emphasizing the role of connection and community and exploring group-level strategies for creating sustainable environments.
